Eight of our Explorers, ably supported by Cathy and Andy, took part in the annual 'Scoutshoot' at the Bisley ranges on Sunday. Despite the name, no Scouts were actually shot. Phew. Explorers had the chance to try five different types of shooting:

Our silver team recently completed their qualifying expedition in the New Forest. The weather was fine, their navigation was spot on, their food was great and team work was amazing! What more can you ask for? Ah, we forgot, how about a regular update as they pass through the checkpoints ...
Yet another fantastic evening at Sayers Croft, this time doing the high ropes, caving and bouldering. It's a fab place to go, really good value and we'd recommend it! We invested Mandy, one of our leaders (she's been a bit slow on the uptake, dithering about whether to commit, but finally saw the light haha!) and Jon awarded badges to the Explorers from the top of a boulder.
Be prepared they say! Well, we worked on that this evening. Heaven forbid anything happens on expedition, but our Explorers know how to call for help and what to do while they wait for assistance to arrive.
Andy and Claire bimble about in kayaks every so often and Sam and Max, our ex-Explorers are expert kayakers. So it's great to be able to take Explorers on the water, hiring the kayaks from the Godalming and District Scout Canoe Club
Ali and Jon are both trained in self-defense skills (you wouldn't want to meet them in a dark alley ha ha!), so this evening taught the Explorers a few moves. And just as exciting, tonight was our first meeting in our new base, the Haslemere Youth Hub - we've been very lucky to be able to start using it as it is being readied for September.
It's traditional in Scouting to celebrate St George's day as Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement adopted St George as the patron saint of Scouting. It's a day when we renew the promise we made when each of us joined the Scouting movement, either as children or adults. This year's celebrations were hosted by Chiddingfold Scouts. Draca Explorers patiently taught fire lighting skills to Beavers and Cubs from across the district.
It was bitterly cold. Snow fell on day three on the top of Mam Tor and the wind blew a hooley. But our Explorers have grit and determination by the bucket load - well done everyone!
What a brilliant evening. Despite thinking we knew a thing or two about equipment, the staff at Cotswold Outdoors gave us lots of fantastic tips. It was great to be able to compare and contrast with no pressure to spend!
